Professional Outreach & Education

I have a demonstrated commitment to making research knowledge accessible to non-researchers.  I have been an Education Advisory Board member for Philadelphia’s International Facility Management Assn. chapter, and I created the “Research Corner” feature in their award-winning bi-monthly publication.  Examples of articles:

  • “Seamless virtual...coming soon to a business near to (and far from) you!”
  • “What does it take to add value?”
  • “Location, location, location.”
  • “Warning:  Don’t believe everything you read.”
  • “Real World Design Experiments.”

Along similar lines, I have made presentations introducing research to professional communities, including:

  • World Workplace Conference:  “Key to a bright future:  The relevance, tools & trends of FM-related research for non-researchers.”
  • Utilities Council, IFMA:   “Findings, fashion, and future work:  A look at facility-related research.”

Inter-disciplinary Outreach

In addition to outreach to professional communities, my work aims to encourage and facilitate dialogue between different academic disciplines.  This includes promoting business-related research among design/behavior scholars - for example, my upcoming article in the Journal of Architectural & Planning Research:

  • “Bridging Two Streams of Corporate Office Design Research:  A comparison of articles appearing in Design/Behavior and Management journals 1980-2001” (Vol.24, No.4, pp.289-307)

This interdisciplinary outreach also includes promoting geography and design-related research among management scholars - for example, see my “Upcoming Conference Presentations.”
