Broadly speaking, my research explores the coordination mechanisms that guide the behavior of employers and workers in organizations and labor markets. In particular, I focus on the interplay between formal organizational arrangements and informal social relationships, and its implications for individual and organizational performance.

The settings for the projects I have carried out thus far, an American high-tech firm with a virtual organizational structure and the emerging market economy of Russia, may appear to be completely disparate at first glance. However, both generate novel coordination mechanisms and provide opportunities to test these mechanisms with detailed and innovative data.
